Dear Friends,

Happy Holidays to you all. I hope this letter finds you well and ready for the holidays! And if you are not ready--like me--I hope you are resigned and relaxed about it!

Thanks to all who donated on Giving Tuesday! Our grand total is $1,310! The money raised will be used to help support CRRL’s Library on the Go Youth Services and new Westmoreland vans.

We are half-way through our year of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the CRRL Friends of the Library. We will continue to mark this milestone over the next six months, starting with another fundraising opportunity!

Topside Federal Credit Union has chosen the Friends of the Library for their January - March 2024 Topside Cares program. Topside Cares was designed to bring attention to local charitable organizations and share organizations' impact on the community.

Topside FCU will match all donations made to the Friends during this time, up to a max of $2,500. That means the Friends could potentially raise $5,000 to support the library’s mission of lifelong learning! Topside will provide a dedicated fundraising link that can be shared. More information to follow soon!

Because of the season, I have to plug my favorite holiday children’s books. When my children were young, there were two books that we read each year on Christmas Eve. One was The Polar Express, of course. The other is Silver Packages, by Cynthia Rylant. This story first appeared as a short story in the author’s collection titled Children of Christmas. It was later published as a picture book in 1997. I still read it myself each year. And, I still get teary-eyed at the end!

Wishing you the happiest of holidays!

Candace Schmidt, Friends President
