Dear Friends,

This week is National Library Week – and though most public libraries across the nation are closed, there is still cause to celebrate. The theme for NLW this year is “Find Your Place at the Library.” This theme was chosen long before the current pandemic, of course.

Once the nature of the crisis became evident, the American Library Association quickly responded by changing the theme to “Find the Library at your Place!” And in response, the Central Rappahannock Regional Library jumped right in and brought services, and collections to you. During the crisis, the library has continued to add eBooks and eAudio to the digital collection, continued to issue library cards, and to provide online reference to customers. Hopefully we will soon be able to celebrate returning to the library in person, but until then celebrate where you are and enjoy using the library at YOUR place.

Thanks to all who have renewed your Friends membership for the next year. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

A Message from Martha Hutzel, Library Director

CRRL Director Martha Hutzel shares books she has been enjoying, and the ways the library has been adapting to still serve customers while branches are closed.

Holds Feature Temporarily Disabled

We know you love CRRL's collections of physical books, movies, and music as holds are continuing to be placed during our closure. Due to the sheer volume of hold requests we have received, it is necessary to temporarily disable placing new holds. The Place a Hold button no longer appears for physical items in the online catalog. The best way to track an item that you want to check out or place a hold on in the future is to use the For Later feature.

Clicking the For Later button adds the item to your For Later Shelf, which you can also use to store items you are currently reading or listening to, or have completed. For Later keeps those items in a list you can easily access from the library catalog or the CRRL mobile app. To navigate to the list when logged into your account, click your username in the purple box, and then click For Later Shelf in the option list that appears.

Holds that have already been placed will be honored and will be placed on pickup shelves once we reopen. Also, holds currently sitting on pickup shelves in branches will remain there for one week after we reopen.

The library will make an announcement when the Place a Hold feature has been re-enabled and you can begin placing holds again.

All CRRL Branches Closed Until Further Notice

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community, all CRRL branches are closed until further notice. Late fees will not accrue. Book drops are closed, so please hold on to any checked out materials. The Friends Bookshop and Center will remain closed until the library reopens. For updates, visit librarypoint.org/news/coronavirus.

Even while branches are closed, you can visit CRRL's digital library for:
